Business Details
My purpose is tell the story with photographs. My style is editorial, similar to photojournalism with the element of documentary, but also allows for camera aware photographs and manipulation of artificial light to help tell the story. There is an element of fashion photography in my style, to create stunning bridal portraits and other creative director style shooting I use with clients who want that.
I take 1/3 down as a retainer and a signed agreement. For your convenience I take checks and credit cards including AMEX.
I design and work on albums between the months of January and May. Albums arrive between the months of February and June, unless you have made a special request to have it at a different time. I design your album myself and they are hand made either in New York or Italy depending on the style of album. You are welcome to submit a list of photos you would like to see in the wedding album. You may opt to have a digital proof of the album available to you. I request you approve the album within 3 weeks of receiving the proof. Albums take between 4-8 weeks after the approval is given. In some cases very custom albums may take up to 12 weeks to be made.
Yes I am fully insured. I have professional indemnity insurance along with public liability insurance.
I can send your venue a copy of my insurance if they require that of all your vendors.
I do request that you feed me and my assistant. I work better when I have food in me! I have been with you all day, running circles around the wedding venue. What is most important is that I eat when you eat, which hopefully you will eat some of your wedding dinner. I am not a big fan of photographing couples while they are eating, not the most flattering moments of the day, so I like to take that time for us to refuel as well. When you are done then we can be done and get back to documenting.
Absolutely! I do not mind at all that there are other cameras going off at the wedding. All I ask is that during the allotted portrait time others stand behind me and wait for me to get my shoot so I have all faces facing me. When I am with the bride and groom alone though I prefer to have it be just us, and not be followed by the paparazzi as it is one of the few times couples get to be alone during the wedding day.
Knock on wood I will be there because the alternative would mean a rather bleak and unfortunate circumstance! In the event that should happen, I do have very well trained assistants that I can fill in my shoes, and also I belong to a network of professional photography organizations and one thing we do is to help each other out in a time of need.
Coverage & Travel
I am based in the wonderful outlet town of Freeport Maine, just a short drive from Portland Maine. I regularly travel out of Maine to cover weddings. Places I have traveled for shoots and weddings include Boston, Vermont, Cape Cod, Newport RI, NYC, NY State, NJ, MD, DC, VA, Ohio, Chicago, LA and Puerto Vallarta Mexico. I am happy to travel anywhere to photograph your wedding and add your location to my list.
If your wedding requires that I need a hotel room and costs to get there I request that you reimburse me for that. I like to keep it simple.
On average I deliver 800-1000 images from a wedding. I don’t put an exact number to the amount of images you will receive, or the number we shoot. It depends on the length of the day, number of guests and events of the day.
Myself and my assistant edit images in a multiple step process. We go through each image, selecting final choices, this is done in a 3-4 step process. All images are color corrected, color enhanced and if desired made black and white. The gallery that goes online and the images you get on your USB drive are ready to print.
Images that are made into prints ready to hang, go in the album receive more attention. i.e. exit signs, blemishes removed, custom developing in the image is done to make the image really sing.
I do photoshop images, like remove unsightly blemishes, fly away hairs, a guest in the background making a funny face during the first dance (if it doesn’t enhance the image). I can and have done many things to images. I do these though for custom ordered products, like wall art, wedding albums. I do not do these time consuming touch ups to all the images that are included in the online gallery, until someone has placed an order.
All of my packages come with my second shooter, an online gallery, online slideshow, a USB drive with high res images to print for personal use. Additional packages include a wedding album, parent albums, rehearsal dinner and engagement sessions.
No problem. After our initial meeting/ conversation I can recommend a base start of time for you. If need be you can add more time, upgrade your package or purchase a wedding album later on.
Payments for weddings are spread into thirds of the total package costs. The first payment/retainer secures the date. The second is due 6 months prior to the wedding. The final third is due 2 weeks before the wedding.
Upon request couples have arranged to make monthly payments, which I am ok with as long as the checks are sent out automatically every month.
Should you book less than 5 months out, the payment schedule is adjusted for the shorter timelines. Which brings me to the next question!
ASAP! I can only hold a date with a contract and retainer. Upon hiring me your date is secured and you can check it off your to do list! Commonly people book me around the 1 year mark from their wedding, but some people book up to 2 months or 2 years from their wedding date.
All payments for the wedding are paid in full before the wedding. You may purchase custom items after the wedding such as frame prints, parent albums, and/or your wedding album.
Occasionally discounts are available but it depends on my schedule, availability and other factors. If you have budget concerns please let me know.
I will send you a questionnaire to fill out with details about the wedding that I will need. About 1-2 months before the wedding we need to talk about the schedule of the day.
All of my wedding packages include the rights to the high resolution files. You will have purchased the rights to use the files for your own personal use. This means for you you can print them into 4x6 prints, canvases, coffee mugs, albums etc. for yourself. What it does not allow you to do is to give the images to vendors to promote their own business. I own the rights to the images to use on my site and promote my business. You will have the license to print and enjoy the images for your personal use.
High resolution files are the images that you will get on your USB drive that you can print. They are high resolution so they will print well. Any questions please ask at any time.
Sure can! I also provide a PDF info sheet with the high res files that includes a professional printer that makes top of the line photo products.
No you do not, but I highly recommend you do as the albums I can make are of exceptional quality and style and it is one less thing you would have to do. Images are my profession so let me give you the best of what I can. You can buy an album at any time before or after the wedding.
Yes I do. 85-90% of the day he is second shooting. The other 10-15% of the day he may be assisting me. I will coordinate where and when they will shoot throughout the day. His strength is candid work and it compliments my style wonderfully. I am sure you will appreciate his work and presence at the wedding.
If need be I will use my second shooter to assist in lighting for certain portraits if need be. If after meeting with you I deem it necessary to have an assistant with me throughout the day all day, I will hire an assistant for myself and keep my second shooter second shooting.
I shoot digitally and capture the images in RAW format, which records the most amount of information possible on my professional cameras. I convert the images later in my editing software, enhancing the colors or creating it black & white. I edit the image based on what I (or we, my assistant) think makes the image the strongest. Some shoots I may do more than the other because that is what works for that client and style of shoot. But every shoot I produce both color and b/w images.
Yes I do. I believe documenting family members is an important part of the day, and often part of the tradition. I am very comfortable directing people when they need to, and having fun with it at the same time. There are not many times during the wedding day you will hear me speak up, but family photo time is one of them. I can corral even the craziest of families.
With that said, I would encourage you not go overboard with a shot list, and stick close to the one I provide you. My philosophy is, it is important to get quality portraits of the special people attending the wedding, but it shouldn’t consume the day and replace interacting with them.
If you foresee a lengthy shot list because you know your families, please advise as this is something we should discuss during the wedding planning stages. Alternatively if you do not want any formal group shots taken at the wedding, also please share this with me.
Planning out group shots bring me again to the next question!
Why yes I am! I do not like to leave the where and when group shots to be taken up to a wedding coordinator or the couple as, I have shot hundreds of weddings and have seen how many things can go down on a wedding day. I want the ideal lighting and location, I want relaxed and happy brides and grooms, and I want it to be done efficiently with a realistic time frame! I am not a wedding planner, but I do want to be involved in planning of hair and make-up, and when and where planned shots are to be taken. This planning can be done with 1-2 phone calls with the bride and or wedding planner. I am more than happy to do this to ensure a great day and great photos.
Once your wedding is over, the sad fact is the only thing you will have to remind you of your wonderful day is the memories, stories and photographs. The champagne bottles are empty and off to the recycle bin, the dress will be stored and the fancy rings on your fingers should be flipping through images of you wedding day!
Because of the importance to me of helping you cherish those memories, it will take up to eight weeks for me to edit your wedding photographs.
I will post images to my blog within a couple of weeks. You will receive a link to your online gallery, then the USB drive with your edited images will be sent in the mail. If you have purchased a wedding album, those arrive between the months of February - June, unless you have made a special request to have it at a different time.

Sure do, I have back-up gear, cf cards and batteries on me. I have shot for many years and I know technology can be temperamental especially blazing through thousands of images on hot muggy summer days.
Yes I do. Again technology is finicky so I back-up my files regularly.
No I do not. So if you lose your files for whatever unforeseen reason, feel free to contact me for a replacement set.
