Our Midcoast Humane Story
I hosted the Holiday Pet Portrait Fundraiser for Midcoast Humane. I want to take this opportunity to share my Midcoast Story. Shortly after my beloved Toby passed away, a friend took me to Midcoast Humane. As I walked through rows of barking dogs, sat there quietly was Pepper, staring at me. That afternoon, I brought her home. She was so scared of everything— the car, stairs, kitchen floor, and even the beach. She was not afraid of chasing our chickens though! There were a lot of tears that first month not knowing what to do with Pepper's behavior. They fled into the woods as Pepper chased them. I reconciled knowing I needed to invest in dog training. We had a life changing experience with Treefrog's training classes and our wonderful dog trainer, Liz Langham. Pepper was always eager for the next lesson. I learned the importance of training an adult shelter dog. Even though it is a big commitment, it is so rewarding giving a shelter dog a second chance finding a forever home.
In memory of Pepper, she LOVED to play and bounced like Tiger from Winnie the Pooh. She had a bark that could take the siding off of the house, and was very protective of my daughter, Lucia and I. Pepper is an important part of our family's story. July 2023 Pepper passed from undetected cancer. I am emotionally tearing up, because it was unexpected and so sudden. We are ever so grateful Midcoast matched us with a wonderful companion.
On December 8th, 2024, people help support Midcoast Humane by bringing their pets into Pet Pantry for a holiday pet portrait.
